Dear Students,

From the time I was young I made the decision that I wanted to become a successful basketball player, and because of years of hard work and perseverance I reached my dream. But, along the way I realized that there is a lot more to life than basketball. So, I would like to take a moment to share with you the important decisions I made while growing up which helped me achieve success on and off the court.

First of all, I decided to stay committed to the goals and dreams I set for myself. Whether it was the dream of running my own basketball camp, the goal of making the honor roll, or the hope of one day starting a motivational program for schools, I did not let myself get distracted or discouraged by those who said I couldn't do it.

Secondly, I chose to hang around friends who also wanted to become successful, and who were making smart decisions in life. I knew that alcohol, drugs, and smoking would only prevent me from reaching my dreams. I also decided when I got to high school that I was going to avoid premarital sex and wait until marriage. It was one of the best decisions I have ever made.

Finally, the most important decision that I have ever made was to allow my faith in God to be the leading influence in my life. I desired (and continue to desire) to put God first, others second, and myself third. I've been far from perfect, but through Christ I have been forgiven and He is helping me each day to become everything I was created to be. The decision I made in my teenage years to follow Him impacts every part of my life today, as I continue to grow in my faith and help others to do the same.
